Legislation, passed down from the EU is a growing issue among businesses. The recent raft of lgilsation includes the Battery directive among others, which aims at eliminating all forms of batteries and accumulators from the general waste stream. Last year saw the first full year of the WEEE directive, which aims to increase the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. Similarly, the packaging directive is in force, hazardous waste regulations (2005). There's a plethora of these recycling directives, leaving businesses with yet more issues to deal with!
