A week long event is taking place designed to get everyone thinking about 'waste' in a more positive way.

* How can I help to tackle climate change?

All these questions and many more can be answered at one of the many fun, practical and informative events taking place during Wise up to Waste Week.

There are loads of events going on across Swansea the list is below. Keep checking back as more details and more events will be added.

Monday 13 July

Meet the Recycling Team Come and join us if you have a burning question or just need green bags. The Real Nappy Campaign will also be there to provide expert tips and advice on use of real nappies.

Magazine and Book Exchange An opportunity to swap or exchange books that people have already read, don't have or would like to acquire.

CD, DVD, computer game exchange. Plus the recycling team will be on hand with information and plenty of green bags.

Make a fairytale desk tidy Recycle cardboard boxes and tubes to make a fun desk accessory.Limited places so call into the library to pick up your free ticket.

Wednesday 15 July

BEN RE- Cycle Bike projectOpen day and bike donation day, drop off your unwanted bikes, visit the project and for a tour and talk regarding RE-Cycle.

Baby Clothes Swap Communities First will be hosting a baby clothes swap shop. For all you parents who can't keep up with your children's growth spurts, come and swap clothes with your friends and neighbours. Bring along good quality clothes that your children don't fit into anymore and swap them for something else. A great, economical way to revamp your children's wardrobe! Throughout the day we will also have experts available to tell you how you can recycle your rubbish including batteries, old mobile phones and household waste.

Pod Re-painting. Clase and Caemawr will be taking part in Wise up to Waste Week by painting the Caemawr Pod! This community building has been neglected for years and will have a new lease of life once it has been painted by the young people of the Caemawr community. Caemawr is an area of Swansea that has some of the most beautiful panoramic views of the valley. Using recycled paints and under the supervision of a professional artist The Pod will be decorated in the theme of its beautiful surroundings.

Knit a square out of scraps Bring along any left over scraps of wool to the library and join us to knit them into squares, all the squares will be sent to the Soweto Comfort Club, supporting AIDS orphans in Africa.See www.knit-a-square.com for more information

Jigsaw Club Recycle your old jigsaws! Bring along a jigsaw (with all the pieces) that you have finished and swap it for a different one to challenge your puzzle-solving skills.

Waste Free at work day. The recycling team have challenged all the staff who work for the City and County of Swansea to try to go the whole day without producing any waste at all. Why not have a go too and commit to waste free Friday. Why not make it every Friday?

Make a Puzzling Picture Frame Bring along any old jigsaws with pieces missing (medium size pieces work best!) and recycle them to make your own unique picture frame. Decorate your frame by reusing objects we've collected and your own creativity!

Bring your nearly new magazines you've finished reading and swap them for some you haven't read in our Big Swap Box! A great chance to brush up on your 3 'R's - The magazines all get Reused, Reducing the amount of waste and all magazines that have reached their full swap potential will then be Recycled! You may even save a few pounds!

Art from Anything! Little Collection Box

Reduce your waste and bring along any bits and pieces that we can reuse and recycle in to new and beautiful things at our future story-times and children's craft events. We would like; small scraps of fabric and wool, little leftover pieces of wrapping or tissue paper, buttons and ribbons. All donations gratefully received.
