The Prime Minister has promised environmental campaigners gathered outside Parliament that he will do all he can to reach a global agreement on climate change via the Copenhagen Summit in December.

Mr Brown spoke to Iris Andrews of Avaaz.org who was taking part in the Global Wakeup Call, a series of flash mobs across the world aimed at asking governments to take action on climate change.

The Prime Minister told Iris that he was “concerned and worried about the failure to reach agreement on something that is of vital importance to the future of our planet” and spoke of the need for “immediate targets” to be agreed at Copenhagen.

Mr Brown added that he fully intends to go to Copenhagen himself if it means securing a successful outcome. He also praised Iris and other campaigners for their efforts and told her to “get more people on board”.

Earlier today, in an article for Newsweek magazine, the PM said that failure to reach a global agreement at Copenhagen would be “unforgivable” and that he would be urging other world leaders to attend.
