The human brain is made for environmental complacency
Submitted by caryskelly on Thu, 13/08/2009 - 13:48Evolved biases that made sense long ago now threaten to make us wilfully
ignorant of real threat. Environmentalists must try to work with human
psychology in making and "selling" policy.
An article by Chris Goodall the author of Ten Technologies to Save the
Planet, listed as one of the Financial Times Science Books of the Year 2008.
His previous book, How to Live a Low-Carbon Life, won the 2007 Clarion Award
for non-fiction and was described by the New Scientist as 'the definitive
guide to reducing your carbon footprint'. His latest book is The Green Guide
for Business.

Current Lush Campaign- Please show your support
Submitted by lynds on Tue, 21/07/2009 - 09:22https://www.lush.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=lush.palmoil...
We are currently campaigning to raise awareness about the extreme deforestation of Indonesia reulting in the homelessness of tribes such as the Orang Rimba. We have joined forces with Greenpeace and the Rainforest Foundation for this important cause.
We have placed a giant cardboard tree in the window where we are asking customers to pop their faces through holes in the leaves and have your photo taken next to faces of the Orang Rimba tribe whose way of life and very means of survival are under threat by encroaching Palm Oil plantations.
The window forms part of an interactive petition that will be presented to Sinar Mas with the text reading:
' we urge palm oil and paper company Sinar as to imediately stop destroying forests in Indonesia. We are part of the same family tree and demand respect for the rights of the Orang Rimba and other tribes who call the forests home.'
Please show your support by signing up online (via the above link) or popping into the Swansea store (opposite Primark) where you can join the interactive petition and purchase a Jungle Tree soap for £2.75-every penny, bar the VAT goes direct to the Rainforest Foundation.
We look forward to your support,
